Tsangyao (T.Y.) Chen, Ph.D.

My teaching, research, and technical work focus on how people learn, seek information, and make decisions with computing systems.

I teach business and information technology at Missouri University of Science and Technology, with courses and learning materials in programming, databases, analytics, information systems, and practical computing foundations. My research brings together information science, human-computer interaction, online health information seeking, and behavioral information research, with particular attention to how cognitive and social biases shape search, judgment, and decision-making.

Before joining Missouri S&T, I worked across higher education, research computing, research data infrastructure, international education, and management information systems. I have served as a faculty member at Chung Yuan University, taught information systems and business analytics at Florida State University, and contributed to research data and health data science projects. I hold a Ph.D. degree in Information Science from Florida State University and an Instructional Technology degree from Ohio University.
